International Women in Engineering Day 2022 – Emma Bishop

22nd June, 2022

To continue our series of features for International Women in Engineering Day, we spoke to Emma Bishop who is Group Business Services Manager about her interests in the industry and the rewarding parts of her role.

What is your role within ODE?

Group Business Services Manager which means I am able to support both ODE, the engineering business unit for oil and gas and renewables, and ODE Asset Management, the Operator business unit. My role is to ensure continual improvement, compliance and quality across the business as well as the development & management of business systems and processes.

I enjoy being able to share best practice and ensuring lessons are learned from each project and shared to the wider organisation.

Can you provide an example of when your contributions have brought innovation to a project or task?

An example would be the implementation of Aconex, the document management system. This not only involved training personnel in the use of the system but involved implementing a different way of working and change in process and approach. Winning hearts and minds was the most challenging aspect of implementing this improvement project for engineering. I also managed the implementation of the Business Management System into SharePoint which required all stakeholders in the organisation to be engaged in the new system and way of working.

What new developments in the industry are you most interested in?

I am intrigued about the oil and gas versus renewables practices and ensuring we take best practice from each and learn from the oil and gas sector. Having managed a project for offshore substations off the coast of Germany, I am interested in the progress renewables, particularly wind, is making internationally as it becomes more cost-effective and efficient.
