Arup-ODE awarded Technical Consultant role for Anmado Offshore Wind Farm in South Korea

15th June 2021

Arup, in association with Offshore Design Engineering Limited (ODE), has been commissioned by Hyundai Engineering Corporation as the Technical Consultant for Korea Wind Energy Co Ltd’s 220MW Anmado Offshore Wind Project in South Korea.

Located at the coast of the South Jeolla Province (Jeollanam-do) of South Korea, the project is one of the initial offshore wind projects to support the country’s energy plan released in 2017 to have at least 20% of electricity produced by renewables by 2030 and 30-35% by 2040.

Arup–ODE team will assess the local conditions to determine the most appropriate foundation system, turbine technology and site layout for the chosen site in order to facilitate the early project planning works.

Leveraging our long-established expertise from the European offshore wind market and further project experience in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam, Arup and ODE’s multidisciplinary teams in Europe and Asia have an in depth understanding of the specific challenges to be faced and how they can be applied to the local conditions and regulatory framework. Through its strategic network of offices across the region, Arup–ODE will deliver world-class engineering services to the project.

“We’re excited to be able to contribute our expertise to the project, drawing upon our combined experiences for the development of offshore wind farms in the UK, Europe, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan. We look forward to engaging with the Korean offshore wind industry to utilise these skills. ” Peter Thompson, East Asia Energy Business Leader

With extensive experience of the offshore wind industry globally and regionally, we are delighted to be working in partnership with Arup to support Wind Energy Co in the development of the Anmado Offshore Wind Farm. This project will play an important role in the Korean offshore wind power generation. It is an exciting opportunity and we are proud to be a key part of it. ” David Robertson, Director & Head of Renewables, ODE

ODE team tackles 100-mile cycle challenge for Renewable World

14th June 2021

Throughout this month, a cycling team of ODE employees – The ODE Cyclepaths – have been challenging themselves to complete the 100-mile Earth Wind and Tyre route in aid of Renewable World. The event is open to all in the renewable energy industry and aims to improve access to renewable energy sources to end poverty and reduce the impact of climate change.

This is the third year ODE employees have taken part in the Earth Wind and Tyre event with 2021 seeing the biggest team to-date. For the first time, however, the Earth Wind and Tyre race was held both in-person and virtually in response to ongoing restrictions. 5 ODE employees braved the route in-person on the 5th June, tackling hills up to 25% in incline and reaching up to 8,280ft along the hills surrounding the city of Durham. Those attending virtually have created their own 100-mile routes to complete throughout June. > Read More

ODE enters Irish renewables market as Owner’s Engineer for Codling Wind Park

1st June 2021

A generic offshore wind farm

International engineering and technical service provider Offshore Design Engineering Ltd (ODE) has been selected as Owner’s Engineer for Codling Wind Park, set to become one of the largest offshore wind farms in Ireland. Executing its first renewables contract in Ireland, ODE will be working closely with client Codling Wind Park Ltd (CWPL), a 50/50 joint venture between Fred. Olsen Renewables and EDF Renewables.

Initially planned as two separate wind farms, the now-combined Codling Wind Park is expected to span an area of around 125km2 approximately 13-22 kilometres off the County Wicklow coast, between Greystones and Wicklow Town. The project is anticipated to have an installed capacity of 900-1500MW and use up to 140 wind turbine generators (WTG). A planning application is expected to be submitted in the first half of 2022. > Read More

IOG plc awards ODE Asset Management Ltd Phase 1 Duty Holder and Operations Contract

17th May 2021

IOG plc (“IOG”, or “the Company”), (AIM: IOG.L), the UK gas company targeting growth and high returns via an infrastructure-led hub strategy, is pleased to announce that, as operator of its joint venture (JV) with CalEnergy Resources (UK) Limited (CER), it has awarded the Duty Holder contract for Phase 1 for Installation and Pipeline Operator, and facilities operations and maintenance (O&M) to ODE Asset Management (ODE AM).

Working closely with IOG’s in-house operations team, ODE AM will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient and cost-effective production operations from the JV’s Phase 1 offshore infrastructure in the UK Southern North Sea (SNS), including the Blythe and Southwark platforms, the Thames Pipeline and the associated subsea connector lines.

ODE AM will also provide O&M and integrated services for Phase 1, including the onshore control room at Bacton, travel, training and crew for offshore activities, emergency response, warehousing and quayside support, and all associated regulatory interface and compliance. The contract has mechanisms to incentivise ODE AM to maximise operating efficiencies and an appropriate risk-reward formula for performance against agreed criteria.

ODE AM has an extensive SNS track record, including as Duty Holder for the Tolmount gas platform on behalf of Humber Gathering System Limited (the Kellas Midstream and Dana Petroleum JV) and Installation and Pipeline Operator for the producing Babbage gas field on behalf of NEO Energy.

This award further cements a relationship that started in early 2018 with ODE AM’s appointment as Pipeline Operator for the Thames Pipeline (PL370), since when it has provided pre-operations services on a reimbursable basis. The wider ODE Group is also undertaking engineering, procurement, construction and installation activities for the ongoing recommissioning of the JV’s onshore Thames Reception Facilities at the Bacton Gas Terminal.

Andrew Hockey, CEO of IOG, commented:

“We are pleased to award this contract to ODE AM, who have a well-established Duty Holder and O&M track record in Southern North Sea gas projects including Babbage and Tolmount. Their focus on safe, efficient and cost-effective operations will be integral to our low opex and low carbon intensity production model. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with ODE AM as we ramp up pre-operations and commissioning activities ahead of First Gas in late Q3 this year.”

Sandy Reid, Managing Director of ODE AM, said:

“We’re delighted to continue our support to IOG on their prestigious Core Project and be appointed Duty Holder for the Blythe and Southwark offshore facilities. This contract fully aligns and incentivises ODE AM to support IOG in what both parties see as an operating partnership to deliver industry leading lifting cost and low carbon performance. We’re proud that IOG are placing their trust in the wider capabilities of the ODE Group to safely deliver both the Bacton EPCI and the offshore Duty Holder scopes.”
